How To Help in the Wake of Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey has taken a catastrophic toll on a great city in our nation. While it has left many stranded, homeless, and in need of assistance, it is a great reminder that we are a nation that unites to help our own. Rebuilding will not be an easy or quick task, but the people of Houston, Texas will overcome this disaster and bring their community to life again.

Do You Want to Help?

In the aftermath of the storm that affected many lives and caused substantial damage and loss, many want to help but are not sure how. While anything you give will make a difference for those who lived through the storm, residents of Houston and Louisiana are in the most need.

Here is a list of credible organizations verified by Mason & Associates that will be greatly appreciative of your generosity:

JJ Watt Foundation

NFL Player JJ Watt has set up the Houston Flood Relief Fund through his foundation to provide supplies for the homeless citizens and rebuild the city.

Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund

Houston’s mayor, Sylvester Turner, along with County Judge Ed Emmett, has set up the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, which will accept tax-deductible flood relief donations for the victims.

United Way Storm Recovery

The United Way of Greater Houston flood relief fund will be used to help with immediate needs as well as long-term services like minor home repair. Visit their website to donate or text UWFLOOD to 41444.

Food Banks

With many residents in shelters, food and water are basic but necessary needs at this time. The Houston Food Bank and The Food Bank of Corpus Christi are asking for monetary donations to carry out their mission of providing food and supplies in the short and long-term as residents of southeast Texas begin to rebuild their lives.

Donate Blood

If you are in the South Texas area, please consider giving blood. The South Texas Blood and Tissue Center is reporting a critical shortage and has extended hours at all of its San Antonio-area donor rooms. To donate, call 210-731-5590 or visit their website to make an appointment.

Another option is Carter BloodCare, which covers hospitals in North, Central and East Texas. To donate, call 877-571-1000 or text DONATE4LIFE to 444-999.

Animal Aid
